Living in the Light

“But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.” 1 John 1:7 TNIV

What make a person a Christian are not his feelings or experiences but his or her relationship with the truth and how this truth impacts his or her relationships with other people. Without the truth, which is also called the faith in the Bible, a person who claims to be a Christian is simply lying or else he or she is self-deceived. Only the truth can set us free. But we need to clarify this further. The truth of God's word must be properly understood or interpreted, based on sound principles of interpretation, and it must be rightly applied, according to God's intentions. Without sound interpretation and right application, our life will be characterized by darkness, not light. But if we have those two things, our life is indeed in the light. The results are twofold: we enjoy life-giving relationships with others and we are continually delivered from the power of sin in our lives.
