The Word that gives Life

“Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”” Matthew 4:4 NIV1984

Bread is important. We need to eat. There are also other things that we might consider important to sustain life. But Jesus said that, although bread (or other things) may have its place, it cannot be the only thing that is important. The most important thing in life is the word of God. Without the word of God, life itself will cease. God created the world out of nothing by means of His word. He sustains it by means of His word. This age will come to pass also by means of His word. The new heavens and the new earth will appear by the power of His word. In other words, the word of God is the most important thing in life. His word is Spirit and life. It sustains everything and everyone. Without His word, life is meaningless, a mere vapor. So get into His word each day, study it, meditate on it, munch on it, digest it. Let it dwell richly in your heart by faith. The word of God will give you real life.
