Experiencing God's Goodness

“Good will come to those who are generous and lend freely, who conduct their affairs with justice.” Psalm 112:5

God is good. People always say that. Often they assume that good will come to them simply because God is good. But this Scripture tells us differently. Good will come to those who are generous and lend freely. It's interesting how Scripture relates stewardship with the experience of God's blessings. This is consistent with the rest of the Scriptures that talk about this matter. You will reap goodness when you sow goodness. We are to be rich in good works, especially when we are financially blessed. We are not to put our trust in worldly wealth, but rather we must put our hope in God who richly blesses us for our enjoyment, and also so that in turn we can bless others. Justice emanates from God as well, and those who call on His name must show justice, too. Again it is in relation to stewardship. How we use money speaks volumes about our spirituality. Having more than enough is indeed a responsibility before God. Those who see it as such, and who practice justice by using money responsibly to help others, and not simply for their enjoyment, will experience God's goodness and blessings in their lives. This is the promise of God in His word.
