Meditations on Exodus 7:6-7 (and context)
6 Moses and Aaron did just
as the Lord commanded them. 7 Moses was eighty years old and Aaron eighty-three
when they spoke to Pharaoh.
Instead of the nursing home, they decided to go
to Pharaoh’s throne. Instead of retiring, they chose to obey. Two grandparents
realized that the best thing to do is to trust God for their lives (imagine
facing Pharaoh) and just do what they have to do. People say, “Age doesn’t
matter.” Well, it’s really true, especially if God says it doesn’t matter. I
heard someone said to me one time, “Age is just mind over matter. If you don’t
mind, it doesn’t matter.” I guess there is some truth to that also (and it’s
not about that new age tagline, “mind over matter”). Age is indeed relative,
relative to your perspective. It can mean much to you, in terms of what you
think you can still do. Looking at your age (and your aging body), you would
assume that you cannot really do much. Not like when you were young, of course.
Now you’re limited. You have to catch your breath now. You cannot do what you
used to do when you were still strong. Correct? Well, when God calls you to do
something, He will empower you to do it, regardless of your age. Nothing is
impossible with God. He is not limited by anything that might limit you or me. All
we have to do is just trust Him. It’s His call anyway. If He thinks you’re
still fit for some world-changing task, He will assign you and give you that
job. Then He will prove Himself faithful and accomplish all that He says He
will do, if you will just obey Him. In other words, He will empower you! Moses
and Aaron experienced that. They obeyed and saw God do great miracles. Perhaps
it’s time for you to say, “Age doesn’t matter.” Or maybe, “Age is mind over
matter.” Whatever. What is important is that you focus on God, not on yourself.
For as long as He is not yet finished with you, you must continue to believe
and trust in Him. Just do what He says you should do. Carpe Diem!
